My love for the Day-Date

I have been a watch enthusiast (and collector) since the 1990s, and the 1:1 CA Rolex Day-Date fake watches was always very high on my wishlist. I remember going into a local Rolex dealer in the early 2000s to try a Day-Date in white gold, and from that moment, I was hooked. It took me a while to decide to buy a gold Day-Date, though, as I quickly realized it was a watch that would not go unnoticed.

But in 2022, coincidentally just a few moments after I visited the Rolex headquarters in Geneva, a friend offered me his Day-Date 18238 from 1991 in great condition, and I decided to go for it. And as soon as I had it on my wrist, I wished that I had bought one much sooner.

Exploring Evergreens: The Rolex Day-Date 18238

The Rolex Day-Date is a classic, and I consider it an icon (and I don’t use this word lightly). It debuted in 1956 and quickly became one of the most recognizable gold cheap replica Rolex watches in the world. You can find an overview of the Day-Date’s history here. Reference 18238 came out in 1988 and replaced the 18038. It was in production until 2000 when Rolex introduced the Day-Date ref. 118238.

The 18238 was the first Day-Date reference to have a quickset function for both the day and the date, making it very easy for the owner to adjust them. Although I love the earlier references as well, I opted for a double quickset. I also happen to own a Rolex Datejust ref. 1601 without a quickset date, and it’s quite bothersome to me, so a double quickset is very welcome indeed! Also, this is the last Day-Date reference to have the brushed finish on top of the lugs.

On the wrist

Every time I put the Day-Date on my wrist, it feels as special as when I did that for the first time. Not many luxury Rolex copy watches in my collection can give me that same sensation. The Rolex President bracelet is largely “to blame” for that, I would say, as it’s an impressive gold three-row bracelet that is incredibly comfortable. The concealed clasp makes it one of the most beautifully designed and constructed bracelets on the market, even today.

Rolex Day-Date dimensions

The Rolex Day-Date 18238 measures 36mm in diameter, 12mm thick (excluding the Cyclops), and 43mm from lug to lug. The space between the lugs is 20mm. I’ve tried the high quality Rolex Day-Date replica watches on a nice strap with a gold Rolex pin buckle, but it wasn’t very long before I switched it back to this bracelet. Despite not being an integrated bracelet, it does feel like the President bracelet is simply part of the Day-Date. On my 18.5cm wrist, I wear the Day-Date with all 23 links.

The interesting part about the bracelet is that the clasp is made of 18K rose gold. So if you think Rolex mounted the wrong clasp on your yellow gold Day-Date, don’t worry; it’s correct. Rose gold is the strongest of all gold variations thanks to the copper in this alloy, making it a perfect material for a clasp. And from the outside, it doesn’t show that the clasp mechanism is made of rose gold.

Caliber 3155

Inside the Rolex Day-Date 18238 is caliber 3155, featuring a power reserve of 48 hours and ticking at a 28,800vph (4Hz) frequency. The movement measures 6mm thick, has 31 jewels, and has been certified as a chronometer by COSC in Switzerland. Today, I noticed that mine needs a service as it runs a little bit slow (-6 seconds on average per day) and has an amplitude of 260 degrees. The good thing about these Rolex 31xx calibers is that a watchmaker can drink while he or she’s servicing them. As with all Swiss movements fake Rolex Day-Date watches, the movement is hidden under the gold case back. It’s not the prettiest movement to look at, but at least it has some perlage decoration on the bridges. The rotor looks a little bit industrial, but since it’s not visible anyway, it doesn’t need any nice(r) decoration or skeletonization.

Dial and day disc configurations

There are many dials available for the Day-Date, and in those days, you could just pick any dial you wanted from the catalog. Dials made of onyx, for example, were available for a slight markup. I have the classic configuration with the champagne dial (not gold!) with gold hands and gold day and date discs. At the time, Rolex offered 26 different languages for these day discs. Mine is in English, but I wouldn’t have minded a Dutch or even German day indicator. This can be changed later as well, and sourcing the proper discs isn’t that big of a problem. The one thing that bothers me sometimes is that the gold hands are not always easy to read against the champagne dial since there isn’t much contrast.

The Oyster case construction and the Twinlock crown system ensure that the Rolex Day-Date 18238 is water resistant to 100 meters (~10 bar). It’s a happy thought, although I don’t swim with my gold AAA replica Rolex watches. Gold is resistant to corrosion, but it is also very soft. When swimming, I’m always afraid that I’ll scrape my watch against the walls of the pool, and besides, I don’t feel that swimming with a watch on the wrist is very comfortable. But in the end, it’s up to you, and you know the Day-Date is up for it.

In 1991, the retail price of the Rolex Day-Date 18238 in this exact configuration (champagne dial, President bracelet ref. 8385) was US$13,750. The same watch with an onyx dial would set you back US$14,650. The full-platinum ref. 18206 had a retail price of US$35,000.

Does the Rolex Day-Date 18238 hold up?

To me, owning a 36mm Rolex Day-Date is a no-brainer. You can use it as a dress watch, especially when wearing it on a leather strap, but it generally goes with everything. Despite the precious material, it’s a very versatile and easy watch to wear. I suspect many out there just wear their top Rolex Day-Date super clone watches daily. This ref. 18238 is a neo-vintage watch by now, clearly a family member of the very early Day-Date ref. 6511 but also very similar to today’s 2024 Rolex Day-Date ref. 128238.

Compared to the modern ref. 128238

Besides more polished surfaces, the modern 36mm Day-Date variation has a heavier bracelet (with solid center links) and a modern Rolex 3255 movement with a 70-hour power reserve and stricter accuracy standards. The modern one weighs approximately 35 grams more than my neo-vintage Day-Date, but the weight of the gold 18238 is still significant. In the end, aesthetically, I prefer the five-digit Rolex Day-Date replica watches online over the modern ones. I happen to like the brushed finish on top of the lugs better than the all-polished lugs of the modern reference.

Prices for the current and neo-vintage counterparts

Today’s equivalent of the Day-Date 18238 is the Day-Date 128238, which has a retail price of €36,500 / US$35,000. A Day-Date 18238 in good condition, however, can be yours for around €17,000 / US$18,500 or perhaps a little bit more for one with a box and papers. You might find them cheaper, but just make sure that there isn’t too much stretch in the bracelet. This can be repaired, but I believe it is easier just to go for one in good condition.

In today’s world, the Rolex Day-Date 18238 still holds up pretty well. The movement is perhaps a bit outdated and outperformed by its successor (caliber 3255), but the quality of the case and bracelet is still incredibly impressive. For a long time, the depreciation on a gold Rolex Day-Date was quite hefty compared to the price development on the steel sports models. Today, it’s still a little bit behind, but it did catch up in recent years. It’s quite stable at the moment, perhaps even a little bit down in this soft market, so now might be the best time to safeguard a neo-vintage Rolex Day-Date.

Final thoughts

I love the Rolex Day-Date. It is a classic, and in the end, it doesn’t even matter which reference you’re after. My wrist size easily allows the Day-Date 40mm to be comfortable as well, and some of my friends have one. However, just like the Explorer models, I think the 36mm version has the best proportions. I find myself wearing my Day-Date regularly, and this, of course, results in scratches on the bracelet and case that look worse in photos than in real life. The good thing about gold fake Rolex watches wholesale is that this is easy to fix if you want to. I like it when a watch shows it is being worn and loved, though.

Earlier this month, we went hands-on with a curated selection of ‘fine’ lots from the Sotheby’s Fine Watches auction, a rolling online auction that had all of its lots end on December 12. There were a ton of interesting lots, but two in particular I kept a close eye on. Not because I could afford them, but rather I was pitting them head-to-head eager to see which customized Rolex would go for more: the best replica Rolex Asprey Daytona or the Supreme Submariner watches. Also, the last lots belonging to notable Australian collector Alan “Hammer” Bloore were up for grabs. Let’s dig into these results below.

The Supreme Submariner versus the Asprey Daytona

While the Supreme Submariner is rather infamous in the watch world, with its massive Supreme crossover appeal and profane ‘F*CK EM’ red text on the dial, has long been customised CA top Rolex fake watches of intrigue. Understandably, the estimate was set between US$50,000 – $100,000. It’s a sizeable premium over its original cost. But even in that uncertainty, I suspected while leaving Sotheby’s after my visit that the Supreme Submariner would likely go between its estimate. The Asprey Daytona, though, which I was smitten with, I firmly believed would go over its conservative estimate of US$70,000 – US$100,000. Even were it to go within the estimate, it would be well over even the secondary market price of steel 2024 China Rolex Daytona replica watches of the same reference number. But I just had this inkling, which ultimately proved correct. The final hammer price of the Supreme Submariner: US$63,500. The final hammer price of the Apsrey Daytona: a whopping US$177,800.

I know it is not an apples-to-apples battle, considering it is not two of the same model that was customised. But, it would seem the Supreme hype cannot overpower the mystique of this lesser-known Asprey Daytona. At least lesser known for now…

To recap for those unfamiliar, Alan “Hammer” Bloore has been a fixture of the watch-collecting community for decades. The Australian collector is known as an early “Paneristi”, ahead of the curve in collecting coveted references from the legendary Italian dive watch brand Panerai. Sadly, Bloore would find himself paralyzed below the armpits after a boating accident in the early 2000s. This, however, did not break his spirits nor extinguish his enthusiasm for collecting Rolex fake watches for sale. The first batch of Bloore’s watches, 37 in total, were hammered off in the Important Watches auction and achieved US$1.6M. The remaining 17, 15 of which were sold during the Fine Watches auction, managed to rake in a total of US$178,121. Below you can find the top five results from Bloore’s collection of lots.

With perhaps more casual lots, for lack of a better phrase, Bloore’s pieces did not hit six-figure results like his Swiss movements replica Rolex Reference 6263 Daytona watches which earned US$171,450. But, I will say it is interesting to see pieces like a 5513 Submariner and 1675 GMT Master hammer off for prices close to what secondary sellers would ask for – and that includes the buyer’s premium.

Hands-On: Best Quality Canada Fake Rolex Sky-Dweller Watches Updated For Sale

Launched over a decade ago, the Sky-Dweller is a fascinating, albeit compromised Rolex watch worthy of attention. In typical Rolex style, the luxury Rolex Sky-Dweller replica watches updated for 2023 carry over just about everything that has made the collection great while introducing minute and not-so-minute improvements and modifications.

As a start, here are a few points to remember about this steadily expanding watch collection. The Sky-Dweller is the most complicated Rolex watch in production today, thanks to its combination of an annual calendar complication with instantaneous displays that jump at midnight, two time zones, and a Ring Command system that enables the rotating bezel to act as a crown function selector. The Sky-Dweller is also among the biggest, widest, thickest, and heaviest top CA Rolex fake watches ever made, and we have sampled all three of its new-for-2023 model variations: The White Rolesor version with Oystersteel case, bracelet, and 18k white gold bezel; the “baller” all-gold-everything 18k Everose variant; and the solid 18k white gold piece matched to a lightweight, “high-performance” Oysterflex bracelet. Let us discover which combination of materials best suits this “elegant and trusted companion for world travelers,” as Rolex puts it.

For almost 80 years, since the first all-gold Datejust debuted in 1945, it has been difficult to overstate the presence of an all-gold Rolex watch. Over that time the Day-Date, Submariner, and, much more recently, the Yacht-Master II have perpetuated a legacy of “holier than thou” wrist-bling through ever larger and bolder cases, bracelets, and dials. The Sky-Dweller doubled down on this when it debuted in 2012 in nothing else but solid gold, or be it exclusively with leather straps. Measuring 42mm wide, and 13.8mm thick, the Sky-Dweller is one of the largest cheap Rolex replica watches, and also a medium-large watch in the greater scheme of things that wears larger than that 42mm figure would suggest. Notably, this effect is further emphasized by the turning of the large watch trend, which is to say that despite its elegant and un-sporty design, the Sky-Dweller is not a discreet watch by any stretch of the imagination, and especially not in yellow or 18k Everose gold.

If you want a solid 18k gold bracelet on your AAA Canada Rolex Sky-Dweller copy watches, as it stands, you have limited options as only the Oyster three-piece link style is available (the five-piece link Jubilee only comes in steel on the Sky-Dweller) and you can only have 18k Everose gold or 18k yellow gold as there is no Oyster bracelet in white gold or platinum. This is odd because the GMT-Master II does come with an 18k yellow gold Jubilee, and the Sky-Dweller is available on an Oystersteel Jubilee, so it might be a matter of time before a gold Jubilee bracelet option joins the Sky-Dweller collection. This is important because, with the wide, flat(-ish) links of the Oyster bracelet, the gold Sky-Dweller is an absolute beast of a watch that is as heavy on the wrist as it is on the eyes.

Introducing changes that can be measured in fractions of a millimeter is this new-for-2023 model you see above, called Rolex Sky-Dweller reference 336935. Until now, there used to be a difference in the lug width measurement of various perfect Rolex Sky-Dweller replica watches, as the first gold models on an Oyster bracelet had a 21mm lug width, while those sold on a leather strap had a 22mm opening. The larger width was taken over by the Rolesor (two-tone) versions in 2017, and it is now, in 2023, that the yellow gold and Everose gold Oyster bracelet-equipped versions adopt this wider, 22mm lug design.

In parallel with this move, the center links of the gold Oyster bracelets of the high quality fake Rolex Sky-Dweller watches have 0.5mm wider center links. Such a move makes the watch head optically smaller, which is not a bad thing given the high volume of the Sky-Dweller. The lug-to-lug measurement has been increased by 0.3mm, hinting at a slightly redesigned lug and case profile. Also new here is the dial Rolex refers to as “Blue-Green,” not to be confused with the Bright Blue dial on the Oystersteel-cased reference 336934 that actually costs a bit less than a third(!) of this all-gold model.

Also new is the Sky-Dweller reference 336934, a watch in White Rolesor, which is Rolex-speak for a watch that uses Oystersteel for most all of its exterior and 18k white gold for certain parts such as the bezel, center links, and crown — but it is just the bezel that is in 18k gold when it comes to the Rolex Sky-Dweller super clone watches with Swiss movements. Nuanced changes here include the aforementioned 0.3mm added to the lug-to-lug which aligns with what we saw with the 2023 redesign of the Rolex Daytona, where the steel version adopted longer lugs (to its detriment, we thought). Difficult to spot, but also new is a thinner seconds hand — which is as minute an alteration as they get, again, in typical Rolex fashion — and the fluted edge of the crown also appears to be thinner, symbolizing Rolex’s quiet efforts to make the Sky-Dweller a bit more gracious.

If you can’t live without a Sky-Dweller in 18k white gold, you can only have it on an Oysterflex “high-performance elastomer” strap. There is no solid 18k white gold bracelet available, so as to better optically differentiate white gold from White Rolesor. Oysterflex-equipped Rolex replica watches wholesale could often be ranked among the weaker value propositions from Rolex today, as they are just $8,000 less expensive than those on a solid gold bracelet, which is not much of a premium to pay for a full-gold Rolex compared to one on a strap — but hey, kudos to Hublot for establishing such a strong market for rubber strap-equipped solid gold watches.

A closer look at the dial reveals a telling little detail: The Rolex crown is now present at 6 o’clock (twice, in favor of symmetry) which on a Rolex watch means that a new-generation movement has been installed in the watch. In 2023, the Sky-Dweller debuts the 9002 caliber, a development on the 9001 that has powered it for over a decade. Modifications include the incorporation of the nickel-phosphorus Chronergy escapement into its design, which is a high-efficiency, Rolex-developed escapement that has played a significant role in bringing some of its two-day power reserve Swiss made fake Rolex watches up to three days. Strangely, the Sky-Dweller sticks with the three-day autonomy that it has had since 2012, and so it is the stronger anti-magnetic properties and the greater efficiency of the escapement (and hence yet greater accuracy over a depleting power reserve) that owners might take advantage of.

In conclusion, the Sky-Dweller quickly (by Rolex standards) grew into a versatile collection not just in terms of design and choice of materials, but also in terms of value proposition. The 2024 China replica Rolex Sky-Dweller watches in White Rolesor (Ref. 336934) is priced at $15,650 USD and it is a ton (almost literally) of watch for that money. Presenting an annual calendar with a peripheral layout for the month and the added horological flex of instantaneous displays together with a second time zone, the addictively tactile Ring Command system, a 72-hour, 4 Hertz, remarkably accurate movement, and Rolex build quality, is an extremely strong proposition for just under $16,000. The Rolex Sky-Dweller wrapped fully in 18k Everose gold (Ref. 336935) is priced at $50,900 USD, demanding the stratospheric (and ever-growing, still) premium that an all-gold Rolex tends to have, but in return delivering the power-factor anyone who buys a colored gold Rolex is after. Last, the Rolex Sky-Dweller in white gold on an Oysterflex strap (Ref. 336239) is $42,700 USD representing the worst value-for-money here, which isn’t shocking from products designed to cater to those who want the latest trending luxury product — which the 18k gold Rolex (or Patek Philippe, for that matter) on a rubber strap definitely is.

At the dawn of international commercial travel in the early 1950s, Pan Am put out a call to Swiss watchmakers in search of something for their pilots to wear that could simultaneously tell the time in two places at once. The first to come up with something was Glycine with its Airman, which used a 24-hour dial in conjunction with a 24-hour rotating bezel. Not long after in 1955, Rolex launched the GMT-Master, which created the GMT complication as we know it today. The first iteration of the cheap fake Rolex watches was the ref. 6542, which originally had a blue and red “Pepsi” bezel made of bakelite with luminous material underneath.
